VPK Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Star Early Literacy
The FAST Star is a coordinated screening and progress monitoring program used to assess students’ achievement of performance standards in early literacy. VPK sites must administer the FAST Star Early Literacy Program to all students participating in VPK programs, both school year and summer. The assessment is administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the VPK school year. The first Progress Monitoring (PM1) must be completed within the first 30 days of VPK attendance.
VPK FAST Training for Test Administrators
Each VPK program must have a qualified test administrator PRIOR to administering the assessment to students. To qualify as a test administrator, an individual must be employed by a private VPK Provider or a school district. The administrator must also document the completion of required training before administering the FAST assessment. All training requirements must be submitted to ELC via the Early Learning Provider Portal.

- Test Administration and Security Agreement
- Test Administrator Prohibited Activities Agreement

The Division of Early Learning highly recommends that VPK Program administrators, teachers, staff, and test administrators complete these courses to support better implementation:

Administration Schedule
Progress Monitoring windows are calculated based on the instructional dates on the certified VPK calendar. Any changes to the VPK calendar will impact on the classroom’s progress monitoring dates.
