Senior Accountant

The Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region, Inc. (ELC) is passionate about supporting children and their early learning journeys!

We are looking to add a strategic and collaborative Senior Accountant to our team. This position oversees essential financial processes and systems to ensure the accuracy, efficiency, and integrity of the organization’s financial operations.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline and four years of accounting experience, preferred; or
  • Associate degree in accounting or related discipline and at least five years of accounting experience required.

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Advanced knowledge and high proficiency with multiple accounting software systems, preferably Microsoft Office (Excel) and Abila MIP
  • Ability to perform office and accounting duties accurately and efficiently without supervision
  • Ability to follow instructions and comply with and support the organization’s policies and procedures
  • Must exhibit a positive attitude and be an example to others in problem-solving, teamwork, interpersonal relationships, and commitment to the organization’s mission and vision

What You Will Do (Summary):

  • Manage and execute the month-end closing process, ensuring all financial reporting is completed accurately and on time
  • Prepare and accurately record journal entries, including cost allocation entries, to guarantee proper financial documentation
  • Maintain and update general ledger activities, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and promptly
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of bank statements, ensuring accuracy in financial records and reporting
  • Develop and monitor budgets, providing analysis and insights to support financial decision-making
  • Oversee accounts payable functions, including the preparation and processing of trade payable check runs, ensuring timely payments
  • Update policies, procedures, and internal control systems to ensure operational efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with financial standards as needed.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, conduct cash flow analyses to inform strategic planning, and collaborate on audit preparation to ensure full compliance with regulatory standards
  • Prepare, process, and submit SR and VPK reimbursement invoices to the Division of Early Learning, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines
  • Serve as backup for processing bi-weekly payroll, inputting payroll transactions accurately, and conducting reconciliations to ensure accuracy
  • Conduct thorough analytical assessments independently, providing actionable insights

  • Participate in a minimum of two ELC Outreach activities and/or events within the fiscal year
  • Participate as directed in all ELC quality improvement efforts to achieve optimum organizational performance
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate use of all resources by immediately reporting suspected fraud (Internal and/or external) via the ELC-established Fraud Reporting Procedure
  • Contact the Abuse Hotline immediately in the event an allegation of abuse, neglect, or exploitation is received, and notify a manager immediately.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

Position: Full-time

Rango salarial: $53,000 – $55,000/annually

Benefits: This is a full-time position that includes the following benefits: health insurance, dental, vision, flexible paid time off, retirement savings plan (401K) and loan forgiveness eligible employer, etc.
