Guiding children’s behavior is very important and teachers guide children throughout the day, not just when a child acts in a way that is unsafe or unacceptable. It is important that you guide behavior by establishing predictable developmentally appropriate rituals, routines and set clear positively stated rules with children. It is also your responsibility to teach and model kindness, respect, caring and responsibility. Children can do this with support of an attentive and aware teacher, who has “with-it-ness.” Together, these actions help children feel noticed, confident, and secure. Children look to you to set limits, keep them safe and know you’re on their team. This course provides you with a developmental approach to guiding young children, while keeping them safe and engaged in learning.
