My First Books
The Early Learning Coalition understands the importance
of reading to children at an early age, after all 90% of a child’s
brain develops before the age of 5. "My First Books"
is a new ELC literacy initiative that will provide every family
who visits one of our seven Family Service Centers with a brand
new children’s book. Our dedicated staff will talk with parents
about how they can support their child’s literacy development
and give them ideas on how to incorporate a love for reading into
their children’s lives. In addition, the ELC will collect
quality used children’s books from the community and give
families "Book Coupons" that can be exchanged for a gently
used children’s book each month. Our hope is to fully stock
our own children’s library full of books to distribute to
children in the Big Bend Region. Join us in helping support children’s
readiness for success in school by giving them the words they need
to succeed!
So far the
Early Learning Coalition has collected 13,898 books toward My First
Books!
