Communities preparing children for success in school.

The Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region serves children and families located in the seven counties that comprise northern Florida’s Big Bend: Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla.

The Coalition strives to create a seamless system of services to better prepare children for entry into kindergarten by providing information resources to aid parents in finding quality child care, holding screenings and assessments to identify any developmental issues in children, and offering technical assistance and professional development opportunities to child care providers.

By focusing on children, families, and parents as individual parts that comprise a whole, the Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region is able to help build a community where all children are prepared for success in school.

The Early Learning Coalition (ELC) supports families as they help their children develop early literacy skills; by providing them with children’s books and family literacy education. Through My First Books a new children’s book will be given to each family who visits one of the seven ELC Family Service Centers. During that visit, ELC staff members will help parents to identify various ways they can support their children’s literacy development. In addition, the ELC collects quality used children’s books from the community and gives families "Book Coupons" which can be exchanged for a gently used children’s book throughout the year.

Please note: Proceeds from the Sweetheart Raffle donations benefit My First Books, which is an early literacy project of the ELC.
THE WINNER WILL BE SELECTED BY A RANDOM DRAWING FROM ALL AVAILABLE, VALID ENTRY TICKETS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE PRESENT TO WIN, AND NO OTHER PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO WIN. NO FUNDS OF THE EARLY LEARNING COALITION OF THE BIG BEND REGION (ELC) WERE USED TO PROCURE THIS PRIZE; THE PRIZE BEING RAFFLED WAS DONATED BY A PATRON OF ELC. YOUR DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. THE $50 SUGGESTED DONATION FOR THIS RAFFLE WILL BENEFIT EARLY LITERACY EFFORTS OF THE EARLY LEARNING COALITION OF THE BIG BEND REGION, WHICH IS A TAX EXEMPT ORGANIZATION UNDER SECTION 501(C) 3, U.S. TAX CODE, ELC FEDERAL ID #59-3743672

My First Books
The Early Learning Coalition understands the importance of reading to children at an early age, after all 90% of a child’s brain develops before the age of 5. "My First Books" is a new ELC literacy initiative that will provide every family who visits one of our seven Family Service Centers with a brand new children’s book. Our dedicated staff will talk with parents about how they can support their child’s literacy development and give them ideas on how to incorporate a love for reading into their children’s lives. In addition, the ELC will collect quality used children’s books from the community and give families "Book Coupons" that can be exchanged for a gently used children’s book each month. Our hope is to fully stock our own children’s library full of books to distribute to children in the Big Bend Region. Join us in helping support children’s readiness for success in school by giving them the words they need to succeed!
